CDP reporting can be difficult and time consuming. Investors, customers, and other stakeholders are increasingly demanding it. PCG’s expert guidance can help you lighten the lift.
CDP (formerly known as the Climate Disclosure Project) is one of the most widely used disclosure platforms. CDP maintains and reports on the largest collection of global sustainability data of small, medium, and large enterprises. Over 23,000 companies representing 65+% of global market cap disclosed data through CDP in 2023.
To report to CDP, companies complete a standardized questionnaire based on the TCFD recommendations and GHGP methodologies. Companies respond to the questionnaire annually, usually between April and September. Including all questions and sub-questions, the full CDP questionnaire requires ~130 quantitative and qualitative answers. Based on these responses, CDP rates organizations from “A” to “F” in terms of their environmental transparency and action.
Demand for climate disclosure is on the rise across economies. A wide range of stakeholders are asking companies to report on their climate impact and plans, from investors and customers to boards and government regulators. Industry giants like Walmart, Apple, and Target are requiring vendors to report climate data and are selecting vendors accordingly. Increasingly, a company’s CDP report is what stakeholders are asking to see. In 2023, hundreds of major investors and large purchasers with US$6.4 trillion in buying power requested thousands of companies to disclose through CDP. Because CDP uses a standardized questionnaire with consistent underlying methodologies, CDP reports can be compared across companies, allowing stakeholders to make better-informed buying, investing, risk, and partnership decisions.
Completing a CDP submission allows your organization to report your climate story to stakeholders in this commonly-requested format. Completing a high-quality CDP submission signals your organization is taking climate seriously. A strong CDP rating brings a range of benefits, from improved reputation to improved stakeholder consideration. Over 400 companies globally received an A rating in 2023 based on their disclosures, earning a spot on CDP’s coveted “A List.”
